A map of wind and solar resources for the Nangroe Aceh Darussalam province – Indonesia : A perspective of a preliminary modeling of hybrid renewable energy system for urban water supply (HRESUWS) The International Conference of IGCES, Malaysia
ABSTRACT
A map of wind and solar resources for major areas in several Indonesian provinces has been accomplished by LAPAN National Institute of Aeronautics and Space of Indonesia. Nevertheless, it is reported that only a few measurements has been taken for Sumatera Island, the Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) province in particular. This article maps wind and solar resources over the NAD area. Moreover, a specific objective for an application of the map has been initiated, namely hybrid renewable energy system for urban water supply (HRESUWS). In the mapping procedure, this study deploys two software packages in which 10 years of satellite data is explored, the World Wind Atlas and LARC NASA software package respectively. It is observed that wind energy in the NAD area is highly potential in its coastal areas. A wind pattern and solar energy availability for 10 years of observation also indicate a great opportunities for the HRESUWS implementation in near future. Together with other research result on water filtration (Zeolite Absorbent), it is expected that the feasibility modeling can enrich a solution for water crisis happening in the NAD-Indonesia.
